HAWTHORNE, Calif., July 21 — The Falcon 9 rocket family has reached 678 launches, with 675 full mission successes, according to SpaceX data through July 16. Two failures occurred during ascent — SpaceX CRS-7 and Starlink Group 9–3 — and one before liftoff, AMOS-6. A partial failure on SpaceX CRS-1 delivered its primary cargo to the International Space Station but stranded a secondary payload.
Designed and operated by SpaceX, the Falcon 9 family comprises four distinct versions. The retired v1.0 flew five times between June 2010 and March 2013.
Its successor, v1.1, logged 15 launches from September 2013 through January 2016. The Full Thrust variants — blocks 3 and 4 — completed 36 missions between December 2015 and June 2018.
Block 5 dominates the manifest
The active Block 5 version has flown 610 times since May 2018. On the record, 609 of those missions succeeded; the sole failure was Starlink Group 9–3. That gives Block 5 a 99.84 percent success rate.
The overall Falcon 9 family success rate stands at 99.56 percent. Falcon Heavy, a derivative that straps two Falcon 9 first stages to a strengthened central core, has launched 12 times since February 2018.
Reusability remains a hallmark. First-stage boosters have landed 638 times in 651 total attempts. Fifty-five boosters have flown multiple missions.
Booster B1067 holds the individual record with 36 flights. Fairing halves have been reflown more than 300 times; the most reused are SN155 (37 reflights) and SN168 (36 reflights).
Payloads and performance records
Since January 2020, Starlink satellites have made up the majority of the manifest. Beyond the constellation, the rocket has launched Dragon crew and cargo missions to the ISS, commercial and military satellites, and a series of deep-space probes — DSCOVR, TESS, DART, Hera, Euclid, Psyche, and Europa Clipper. The heaviest payload yet lifted was 24 Starlink V2-Mini satellites, totaling 17,500 kilograms, in February 2024.
The heaviest payload delivered to geostationary transfer orbit was Jupiter-3, a 9,200-kilogram satellite launched on July 29, 2023.
Annual launch records
In 2022, Falcon 9 set a record of 60 successful launches in a calendar year, surpassing the Soyuz-U’s 47 launches in 1979. The following year, the entire Falcon family — including both Falcon 9 and Falcon Heavy — achieved 96 successful launches, eclipsing the R-7 family’s 63 launches in 1980. In 2024, SpaceX broke its own record with 134 total Falcon flights, 133 of which succeeded, accounting for more than half of all orbital launches that year.
Sources familiar with the program note that the cadence continues to increase. The operational Block 5 fleet, the growing number of reused boosters, and the reflight of fairings all contribute to what the record shows: a steady climb in both reliability and flight rate.
As of mid-July, the Falcon 9 family has logged 678 missions — and the next launch is pending on the timeline.
